One of the best parts of my job as a Boston wedding and family photographer is the relationships that are forged through years of sharing intimate moments. In today’s Boston Entrepreneur photography series, I’m introducing Cloth Hall, a hand-crafted homewares and upholstery business focused on quality construction and contemporary design. I met the owner, Melinda Bernardo Cuerda, when she was one of my brides during KKP’s first year in business as a wedding photographer. Life has come full circle, and we find ourselves a perfect match once again.
When you walk through Melinda’s house, it becomes immediately obvious that design is her calling; beautifully coordinated blues, greens and yellows in unexpected textures welcome you into their abode. Vintage TVs and lace window dressings make you feel like you’re stepping into a hipster version of the Ava Gardner Museum. I could have spent hours photographing the details, but we kept moving to get to the good stuff: her work space. Melinda is meticulous with her equipment and materials. She acquired 5 vintage Singer sewing machines when she discovered them gathering dust in a friend’s basement. And let me tell you, these things are heavy! So she hired a crew to move them into her home, and Cloth Hall was born.
Cloth Hall’s mission is to provide hand crafted cushions, ready-to-install drapes, duvet covers, and small upholstery projects to a market of urban-minded professionals who are enjoy a contemporary-style but are wary of the quality from big retailers. Designs are simply styled, with a focus on utility and durability, utilizing unique, high-quality textiles, leathers, and trims. Cloth Hall is perfect for DIYers and Etsy shoppers who are looking for a more personal design and purchase experience. And consumers can rest easy that every piece is handmade right here in Massachusetts. She also has some really cute pets…
